My first concert...

Peter Frampton at the LA Forum...1976. I was 13 and in the 7th grade.
My mom and dad took my sister Gina and I and, honestly, it was incredible. To this day I remember exactly the view, singing all of his songs with him and I remember him coming out to sing FOUR encores. (Back when encores were not scheduled and planned...you had scream and clap a lot and get your lighter out to get them back in those days!)
One of the first questions I ever ask someone when I meet them is: What was the first concert you ever went to?
You can tell a lot from a person by their answer...first off, if they can't remember--bad sign. If they have never been to a concert--the worst sign. Secondly, you can tell their age--is their answer "Led Zeppelin" or " Whitney Houston" or "New Kids on the Block"?
Most importantly from the way they explain the concert and describe the experience, you can tell whether or not they love music. Usually, the conversation includes the follow-up concerts, the "best concert of my life" and the "wish I could have seen..." conversation. These are my people. My close friends not only love concerts...they love music.
I have seen Peter Frampton four times...the most recent was about 5 years ago when Gina and I saw him at the OC Fair. He looked a little different from the first time...but he was still as amazing as ever.
What was the first concert you ever went to?

The first concert I can remember is Rich Mullins on a stage by himself with a piano and guitar. Awesome God had only recently been released. We lived in a small city in South Dakota, so the crowd was fairly intimate. I was probably in third grade (before that I lived on Guam and there wasn't many concert given there) Actually Rich was leading worship at a youth retreat for some area wide churches and spent the weekend at my home church. He wrote parts of Calling Out Your Name in my church basement, where I have so many memories.

Oh wait when I was real little I saw Sesame Street Live. Does that count?

So what does that tell you about me?

Oh, how I wish I could say Led Zeppelin was my first, but Peter Frampton was great! I heart Pete and Donas for taking us. They were pretty cool back then.

And Heather, we totally know the DeFranco's....
